Sophia Busfield – SPORTS and spinal physiotherapist
Sophia completed her degree in physiotherapy in 2006 from St Georges Medical School, from there her first role as a physiotherapist was with Millwall FC heading up the academy. She went on to take on full first team duties which saw her become the first female physiotherapist to run on at ‘The New Den’ for Millwall.
In 2008 she left Millwall to start her masters degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Barts, London as well as freelance work in a private clinic and with Emanuel and Habberdashers Asks. She headed up the medical provision for sports scholars, managing their injury from pitch side to treatment table and back again.
2010 was the start of her Olympic journey and became a part of the physiotherapy team at a performance institute in Dartford, for British Judo. There she was delivering rehabilitation and injury management for athletes at home and abroad.
As well as her role at Balance Performance she currently works within GBR Beach Volleyball, Team Gregory/Sheaf. Delivering bespoke rehabilitation programs for return to play, as well as body conditioning to prevent injury and keep the boys on court as they pursue their dream to qualify for Rio 2016.
Sophia is a recreational runner, has a interest in photography and loves to travel. She has a keen passion for end stage rehabilitation and return to sport and in the future looks to gain qualifications in strength and conditioning.
