Joanna Conway – Podiatrist
Podiatry at Balance is provided by Joanna Conway. She treats a wide range of podiatry conditions including mechanical, orthopaedic and sports related foot, ankle, knee and leg pain. Furthermore and reassuringly she has over 20 years of experience.
Podiatry is not all about running and sports injuries. In contrast Joanna treats heel pain, plantar fasciitis, neuromas (trapped nerve in the toes), Achilles tendinitis and shin pain. Her specialist areas include podiatry for children, nail surgery and diabetic related foot issues. Besides this bunions and fungal infections are common complaints people visit Jo with.
Joanna’s podiatry background
Joanna qualified in 1997 from UCL university. She has been treating ever since and has worked alongside experts both in the NHS and private sector.
Joanna’s qualification took her overseas to Australia in 2000 working as a podiatrist at a local hospital. Consequently she became the clinical lead for a new podiatry service. This expanded Joanna’s experience in biomechanical assessments, podopaediatrics (study of children’s feet), diabetes and wound care treatments. Furthermore she had the opportunity to work closely with a local Koori Aboriginal tribe. Work there involved the management and prevention of diabetic ulceration and amputations.
On returning to the UK, Joanna continued to expand on her scope of practice. Firstly she spent 3 years as a clinical lecturer for a leading biomechanics company in gait analysis and musculoskeletal conditions of the hip, knee, foot and ankle. Then she worked within the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham in a specialised heel pain clinic. Within this clinic she became an excellent team player working with orthopaedic surgeons, radiologists, physiotherapists and rheumatologists.
