Cycling analysis
Cycling is a great, low-impact way to stay fit, but it isn’t without risk of pain and injury and what you perceive as being fitness does not guarantee high performance.
Pain is an indication that something is wrong. Common reasons for discomfort are related to cycle fit and body mechanics.
So we address:
- poor bike fit and posture
- improper riding technique.
Most acute cycling injuries are the result of trauma and falls.
Bike Fit
We suggest you have your bike adjusted to meet the unique "configuration" of your body; if your bike doesn’t fit you, you will be forced to adapt yourself to fit the bike. There are always compromises in sport for the sake of performance but they should be explored not blindly accepted.
Once you have a bike that fits then you need a body thats fit and is conditioned to cycle the bike you love to ride.
Cycle Analysis: Performance issues are clearly our aim, but injury prevention is addressed by looking at all aspects of the fit. At Balance Performance Physiotherapy we video analyse you cycling on a bike. Filming you from the front, side and back using specialist sports biomechanics software (silicon coach). Frame by frame detail can show us asymmetries and problem areas at notably the back, hip, knee, foot over pedal/cleat position.
We recommend only one company to set you up and fit your bike: Cycle Fit.
We work closely with Cycle Fit and run a Wednesday clinic there aimed specifically at cyclists and triathletes. Their goal is to get the individual into a position that allows them to accomplish their cycling goal within their body's ability.
We then work on making you body more and more able to do this through specific training and focussed conditioning. Performance levels can be further improved by our strength and conditioning coaches.
