Athletic Movement Class
A few weeks ago we started an "Athletic Movement" class at Balance, our sports injury and physical performance centre in London. The session has proven incredibly popular, providing a challenge both mentally and physically.
Julien Diaz is the brains behind it, he is a movement coach and an integral part of our strength and conditioning team. As a former professional dancer with a high level of understanding and body awareness Julien knows a lot about controlled and powerful movement.
To make sustainable gains in athletic ability or to achieve long term respite from a back problem or other joint pains you must understand, become aware and then improve your joint mobility and control of movement.
The Athletic Movement Class is designed to provide you with the tools and show you the possibilities you have to move better.
The whole ethos of Balance Performance Physiotherapy is to provide all those that come to us in SW4, or consult us elsewhere, with the right tools and knowledge, then offer the opportunity and ongoing support to improve their quality in movement for a long term result and sustainable gains.
Irrespective of the reason you have come to be reading this piece, either as a client of Balance recovering from injury, finding us through a Google search, or knowing us through Industrial Strength our aim is to see you develop control and sensitivity in movement that allows maximum use of the strength, power, speed and endurance you have. If we see that you don’t have enough of those qualities, we can work on that too.
Before recommending it to any of her clients Sian MacRae, one of the physiotherapists in our team, put herself into the class to better understand what it was about.
Here's how she described it:
"this dynamic exercise class continuously challenges balance and co-ordination skills whilst working on improving your flexibility and control. Such skills are commonly omitted by athletes from their general training programmes. Facilitation of these skills will improve the quality of your movement, enhancing your performance and reducing your risk of injury.
The class focuses on upper and lower limb movement patterns, with a strong emphasis on trunk and pelvic stability. You may find yourself lunging, pirouetting, or mastering the forward roll, all with precision and control under the close supervision and guidance of Julien Diaz.
Julien is a highly trained and accomplished dancer, who undertook his early training at ballet rambert. He incorporates his extensive knowledge of dance to provide this unique approach to flexibility training, core control and quality movement."
If you have a question for Julien call on +447813910048
The class is on a Thursday evening between 8 and 9pm in the Balance studio.
