Summer 2009 Team News - Wimbledon tennis, triathlons, books and sports travel
The team has been exceptionally busy and this is set to continue over the summer months. Here is a sample of what the professionals you usually only see at Balance's treatment and performance centre are involved in and provide to non-Londoners - Balance is truly international.
- Graham has had a whole month of professional tennis - starting at the AEGON Championships, Queens Club, going on to the LTAs HQ in Roehampton for the Wimbledon qualifiers and then finally on to the AELTC and the Championships Wimbledon 2009. Wimbledon is arguably the most esteemed of the Grand Slams but its definitely one of the biggest international sports events of the year so its great to be involved with such a tournament year by year.
Graham is responsible for the physiotherapy and sports massage services at both the "quallys" and the main draw at Wimbledon. Jonathan is also at the tennis for the 10th year running. They are part of team of 16 physios and sports masseurs working alongside ATP and WTA trainers who attend the "court calls" when players request assessment and treatment in-play. If you missed the blog entry on the AEGON Championships and mention of the ATP World Tour Finals 2009 at the London O2 Arena CLICK HERE.
- Jonathan and Cj were in Milan in mid June where they assisted Steve Cotter (world class athlete and internationally renowned teacher of kettlebells and athletic movement) on the Certified Kettlebell Teacher training (on in London on July 11th and 12th). "Having been taught by Steve or assisted him on kettlebell and movement workshops on 12 seperate occassions now (over the last 5 years) and spent some considerable time in various conversations Steve has become an exceptional mentor of mine. Every encounter results in greater learning, technical improvements and renewed enthusiasm for both my own physical training and professional practice."
It was an exceptional weekend spent with some great people in attendance....you will soon be able to read a blog entry summarising the weekend by CLICKING HERE and visiting INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH LONDON and see pictures on our facebook pages.
- Paula Coates, back pain specialist and author of "Running Repairs" has excelled herself yet again. She has recently completed another 3 self-help books for people with Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, back pain;Posture and Spinal Pain. The books describe and guide the reader to make achievable lifestyle changes and introduce manageable and effective exercises. This series will be available in January 2010 published by AC Black. A brief pause and refresh for Paula before she goes onto her next project. Meanwhile her "Running Repairs" book for recreational and competitive runners alike is available at Balance, £12.99.
If you would like to know more about any of these books contact Paula and ask away.
- Raphael Rinaldi has several weeks ahead as athletics physiotherapist working with the Italy team. Firstly at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara Italy and then at the IAAF World Youth Championships, Bressanone, Sudtirol, Italy. It should be great for Raph to be working on home turf with these elite group of athletes - Raph has promised us a few photos and an update for the Balance Blog when he is able.
- The one who started off the summer travels was Carolyn Aldridge yet another of the team who regularly works in Elite Athletics. For Carolyn it started in May at the Paralympic World Cup. Much as we enjoy seeing everyone on their travels and using their skills with elite teams and individuals across a vast array of sports and events it will be great to see the whole Balance team come back together and working at our Clapham facility.
